Spotlight Feature: Miquel Wellington

Spotlight Feature: Miquel Wellington

Here at Rising Stars, we think it’s very important to highlight our volunteers and the work they have done.  This week’s Spotlight feature is Miquel Wellington.

Miquel started volunteering at Pie Radio at the start of 2021 as part of the media team, editing visual content for Pie Radio’s Youtube channel and social media pages.  Miquel assisted the video team with filming, setting up cameras, lights, dressing the studio to make it look nice and sorting out microphones etc… The list goes on.  Miquel has even made a few guest appearances in podcasts and debates.  She is multi-talented and we love to see it.

We asked Miquel some questions about her time at Rising Stars / Pie Radio.  Here is what she had to say.

What did you learn at Pie Radio?

“I learned to be part of a creative team, I was able to share my ideas and work on projects through a shared team effort. I also got to do camera work and work closely with artists that radio presenters would bring on as guests for the first time in any job role. And finally, I got the chance to edit, this can vary between radio shows, podcasts, interviews etc… just any parts of content for social media” (Instagram, YouTube, Facebook).

What did you enjoy in your time at Pie Radio?

“I enjoyed working closely with my creative team and radio presenters, it’s always important to enjoy your work and especially the people you work with, when I first started, I was nervous and a lot of people would actually say I looked shy, but once I met everyone and felt I had a place, it definitely didn’t take long for me to feel like I belonged. Everyone was so welcoming, and it makes me look forward to going to work”.

What are your career aspirations?

“I’ve never really known the title of the job I want to get into which sounds quite bad, but I enjoy anything media, filming, editing, creating etc… I just enjoy being part of creating content and having an outcome that can inspire others”.

What are you doing now?

“I was fortunate enough to actually get my graduate job recently, I currently work as a video editor/ content creator at an inspiring music maker company called Virtuoso.  They have a website that viewers can subscribe to and get involved in workshops with some of their favourite artists/DJ’s.  I work on the video editing team and put my ideas across for upcoming projects with the company”.
