Contract duration: February – September 2015 [8 months with 3 months probation period.  Contract may be extended based on performance and further work]
 
Term: Freelance post, Approx. 3 Days per week, based in Stockport
 
Fee: £1,200 Per Month,  starting 2nd February 2015
 

Rising Star NW CIC is a growing music, media, art, and events social enterprise based in Stockport.  We are seeking a Freelance Music Leader / Trainee Project Manager for our upcoming ‘In The Music With‘ music project starting February 2014.  This new post, part funded by The European Social Fund and Youth Music is a great opportunity for trainee project managers and music leaders to extend their skills in facilitation and youth work, expand their experiences in workshop delivery and have a pivotal role in defining and planning all future music projects within Rising Stars.  The project will incorporate the delivery of the Arts Award in a variety of levels dependant on the capabilities of project participants.

The candidate should be enthusiastic, motivated, reliable, independent, professional, and energetic.  We expect the ideal candidate to have experience of running music projects, workshops and activities with young people or in an educational setting.  They will have experience of guitar and piano playing with skills of music theory and composition.  They will have experience of working in a professional music environment or recording studio.  They will have experience of project planning, evaluation skills, and the ability to manage people including young people, volunteers and partners.  Additional training will be provided where applicable.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. To work collaboratively with Rising Stars team including volunteers, freelance artists, and young people to plan and implement high quality music projects, and identify areas for improvement
  2. To lead on instrumental tuitions in group and one to one settings for music projects and undertaking the necessary planning, preparation and assessment tasks associated with the delivery
  3. To take the lead on the monitoring, evaluation and reviewing of Rising Stars music projects

  • Project management and organisational skills
  • A good knowledge of running a recording studio
  • A good knowledge of a range of musical styles, and genres
  • Excellent communication skills (speaking, listening, and written)
  • A good understanding of electronic and traditional music production skills
  • Skills in playing a range of musical instrument and use of music technology
  • Passion and enthusiasm for music and the ability to teach and motivate young people
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to make sound judgement on complex issues
  • The ability to self motivate, work independently with minimum supervision, and be proactive in generating creative ideas that will enhance existing services and introduce new projects and activities
